@u.northwestern.edu Login Page Upgrade in April

Posted Date: 20 Feb 2015

Effective Date: 20 Feb 2015

To provide better data security for students and alumni, on April 16 Google will be updating the authentication method for all Google for Education email accounts, including @u.northwestern.edu, @nlaw.northwestern.edu, and @fsm.northwestern.edu. Accounts will still be accessible from the Google login page using an email address and Google account password, but Northwestern users will no longer be able to log in with a NetID and NetID password.

Standardizing the University email access to match the general Gmail login also eliminates the need for students to potentially change the way they log into their email after graduation. These accounts will continue to remain active for all alumni of the University.

End User Impact

Google Login Page

Beginning Thursday, April 16, users will only be able to log into their University-provided Google accounts with a Google email address and password. The @u.northwestern.edu, @nlaw.northwestern.edu, and @fsm.northwestern.edu login pages will also be redirected to the Google login page. Users are encouraged to update any bookmarks for these pages to accounts.google.com.

Account holders who have forgotten their Google password should follow the instructions for resetting this password, using their NetID and NetID password, before April 15. Anyone who uses a Gmail alias for their account and is unsure of their official email address, can find it by searching for themselves in the Northwestern Online Directory.
