Blue Jeans Desktop Application Update–July 16

Posted Date: 13 Jul 2016

Effective Date: 16 Jul 2016

Effective Saturday, July 16, 2016, the current desktop application for the Blue Jeans videoconferencing service will be updated to version 1.11. Students, faculty, and staff who use Blue Jeans to host and attend virtual meetings are encouraged to update to the new version when prompted for an optimal meeting experience.

This is in anticipation of new conferencing features that will be introduced by the Blue Jeans vendor beginning in August, only through the desktop application. The Blue Jeans plug-in will still be available for basic conferencing.

More information about this change will be provided to the user community in the coming weeks.

End User Impact

The first time you log into Blue Jeans on or after July 16, you will be prompted to upgrade to the latest version of the Blue Jeans desktop application.

If you use the Blue Jeans plug-in, Northwestern Information Technology recommends that you download the desktop application now to ensure you received the new conferencing features in August.

Additionally, if you support room(s) that utilize a resident computer to run Blue Jeans meetings, Northwestern Information Technology recommends updating to the new desktop application version before July 16 to avoid any delays in joining meetings when the new version is made available.
