Changes to Blue Jeans Videoconferencing Service – September 1

Posted Date: 23 Aug 2016

Effective Date: 1 Sep 2016

Beginning September 1, the Blue Jeans videoconferencing service can only be accessed through the Blue Jeans desktop application or the Google Chrome Internet browser. Students, faculty, and staff who use Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari  browsers to host and attend virtual meetings are encouraged to download the Blue Jeans desktop application now to avoid any delays in joining meetings after September 1. This change does not affect Chrome browser users.

Recently, major browser vendors have either ended support for their plugins or announced they will be ending plugin support in the near future. As a result, the Blue Jeans browser plugin will no longer work for Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari.

End User Impact

If you are already using the desktop application to access your meetings, no action is needed.

If you use the Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari browser, Northwestern IT recommends you download the desktop application before September 1 to access your meetings. After September 1, you will be prompted to do so the next time you access a Blue Jeans meeting.
