Effective Date: 1 Sep 2016

To provide industry-standard higher email storage limits, Northwestern Information Technology (IT) is increasing the individual quota for faculty and staff email accounts to 25 Gigabytes (GB), effective, September 1, 2016.

The storage limit for all other members of the University, including Emeritus, departmental accounts, and graduate students is increasing to 8GB.

End User Impact

Checking your email quota is easy and you can monitor it at any time. How to check your email quota.

When approaching the mailbox size limit, Northwestern IT will send a reminder message providing instructions on how to reduce your mailbox size. To ensure that your mailbox does not reach the limit, consider removing items from your Sent Items folder and emptying your Deleted Items and Junk Email folders (both of which count towards your overall mailbox size). You can also set rules to automatically delete messages. Additional email support tools are available to help you manage your email.

IMPORTANT: Northwestern IT is aware of a number of fake email messages asking for username and password under the pretense of sorting out various email-related issues. Northwestern IT will never, under any circumstances, ask for these details and particularly your NetID password should never be revealed to anyone and certainly never sent in an email.
