Vault Collaborative Research Data Storage Service to Retire January 14

Posted Date: 2 Feb 2016

Modified Date: 9 Nov 2016

Effective Date: 29 Jul 2016

The Vault Collaborative Research Data Storage service, a web-based document management tool used by Northwestern researchers to upload, store, and share documents or files, will be retired effective, January 14, 2017. Effective immediately no new accounts will be created. New users may request access to existing accounts until August 1, 2016.

Northwestern Information Technology (IT) is retiring the legacy system in favor of Northwestern Box, one of the many advanced file-sharing resources available at the University.

Northwestern Box offers flexible online space for unlimited file storing or sharing at no additional cost to schools, departments, or individuals. All Box content can be accessed online from computers or mobile devices.

End User Impact

Account holders are strongly encouraged to move their files and folders on Vault Collaborative to Northwestern Box before January 14, 2017. After this date, documentation remaining on the system will no longer be retrievable.

Northwestern researchers who currently have or plan to store personally identifiable information or other regulated data or have files over 15 GB, should instead use the Research Data Storage Service. Visit the Research Data Storage Service web page for details.
