Effective Date: 1 Jul 2016

Northwestern Information Technology (IT) is retiring the NU Desktop Videoconferencing Service, powered by Vidyo, on July 1, 2016 in favor of Blue Jeans, a cloud-based conferencing service that supports high-resolution videoconferencing, high-resolution content sharing, and real-time video sharing.

In preparation for this service retirement, Northwestern IT has been sending regular email communications to Vidyo account holders providing instructions to uninstall the Vidyo software and for how to transition to Blue Jeans.

Blue Jeans was introduced to Northwestern last October and has been readily adopted by students, faculty, and staff.

End User Impact

Before July 1: Vidyo account holders are encouraged to log in to Blue Jeans using their NetID and NetID password. An account is automatically set up and can be customized using the account settings feature.

When using Blue Jeans the first time, you may be prompted to download the Blue Jeans plug-in. For mobile use, you will need to download the free Blue Jeans app from the App Store for iOS devices or Google Play for Android devices.

On July 1: Vidyo is no longer available for use.

To help you transition to Blue Jeans, Northwestern IT has created several how-to videos and detailed instructions for how to schedule a meeting and how to attend a meeting available in the IT Knowledge Base.
