Greek Housing Cable TV Support

Repair service

If your cable service is not working, please check the following items carefully before calling for service. If the problem turns out to be with your TV or VCR, you may be charged for the service call.

Check:

  1. Is the TV plugged in and turned on?
  2. Are all the TV and VCR cables properly connected?
  3. Is the Cable TV connection loose or disconnected?

If your VCR is used for selecting channels:

  1. Is it turned on?
  2. Is it set to TV rather than TAPE?
  3. Is the TV set to the correct channel (usually 3 or 4)?
  4. If your VCR is not used for selecting channels, turn it off.

If you determine that repair service is necessary, call 611 (the 24-hour, 7-day NUIT Repair Center) from a campus telephone to report the problem. They will make the necessary arrangements for the repair.

When you call 611, you will be asked for the following:

  • name, address, room number
  • NU ID number
  • location of cable outlet with problem
  • brief description of problem
  • telephone number where you can be reached

NUIT will schedule a cable service technician to be dispatched to your location. An appointment will be made no sooner than the next business day between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for holidays.

Room access

It is your responsibility to make arrangements to provide access to your location for the technician. You or your designated representative must be available to provide entry to the location and remain with the technician throughout the visit. If a technician responds during a scheduled time frame and cannot gain entry due to the absence of you or your representative, you will be charged for the visit, and it will be your responsibility to rescheduled the repair by calling 611.

Repair charges

Repairs are free of charge unless any of the following apply:

  • Repair was required because of vandalism or tampering with NUIT jacks, lines or equipment.
  • You or your representative were not present during the scheduled time frame.
  • A technician was dispatched and the problem was found to be with your television set (or other equipment) or its attachment to the outlet.

When repair charges are applicable, repairs will be billed at the rate of $67.32 per hour, plus materials. A minimum of 1/2 hour ($33.66) will be charged. Charges will be billed to the roommate who placed the repair call and will appear on that roommate's next monthly billing statement from ACUS. However, questions regarding billing of repairs should be referred to NUIT's accounting department at 847-467-1000.
