NUTV in Evanston and Chicago Buildings

NUIT has developed an innovative system to deliver expanded television options to the University. NUTV provides basic cable TV service to the faculty, staff, and students.

Two channel packages are available to faculty, staff, and students: Basic and Expanded. Selected channels (including two C-SPAN channels and NUCH1, the University's information channel) are provided for the purpose of supporting the Northwestern academic mission.

NUTV Access

NUTV can be accessed via the NU Network by faculty, staff and students. NUTV is available across the campus community on multicast-enabled, switched network connections.

• Students: NUIT implemented NUTV in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs in response to student requests for access to expanded television options in individual undergraduate residence hall rooms via the NU Network.
• Faculty and Staff: Faculty and staff can receive NUTV via the NU Network or common area television. The cost for accessing the Expanded channel package is $13.45 per month, while the Basic channel package carries no additional charge. Ordering information is below.

NUTV for Common Area Televisions

Video Furnace developed a NUTV Set Top Box that is able to convert the streaming NUTV NU Network signal into a television signal. The NUTV Set Top Box looks and operates just like a common cable converter found in most households.

Currently, the NUTV Set Top Box is only being offered to faculty and staff for use in common areas, such as classrooms, lounge areas, conference rooms, and cafeterias.

Sample NUTV Picture Quality

To sample NUTV picture quality, visit the NUTV Web site and click the Watch Basic NUTV button. High definition resolution is not available with any NUTV service.

Cost

• Data circuit: $235 one time fee (an active data circuit is required to receive NUTV)
• Basic channel package: no additional cost
• Expanded channel package $13.45 per month
• NUTV Set Top Box one time set up fee: $325 (Faculty and staff only)
• NUTV Set Top Box repair costs

Ordering

An authorized departmental representative can order NUTV (including common area service) through CONDUITS Online. Users can expect to start receiving service five days after placing an order.
