Videoconference Streaming

Northwestern Information Technology supports live videoconference streaming for as many as 25 viewing participants. Videoconference streaming is designed to be a one-way-only stream. The stream will be viewed with a delay of several seconds, depending on your network connection.

Videoconference streaming is available for all videoconference scenarios.  Desktop to Desktop, Room to Desktop, multi-site conferences with any combination of rooms and desktop systems at NU or other institutions - all of which require the use of our infrastructure to provide the live streaming service.

Request Live Streaming

  1. Login to My Conferences to modify or add a new conference.
  2. Fill out the form as needed making sure the MCU selection has been set to Yes.
  3. Select Yes for streaming.
  4. Finish the form, then click Submit. 
A link to this page will be provided in the confirmation e-mail and should be e-mail to those who will need to access the live stream. 

How to View Your Live Videoconference Stream

  1. Go to the login page at Videoconference Streaming.
  2. Enter your name.
    (we recommend FirstLast@YourInstitution such as JohnDoe@Northwestern)
  3. Enter the Conference ID provided by the conference coordinator.
    Without this ID, you cannot view the conference.
  4. Enter your PIN.
    Leave this blank unless your conference coordinator has informed you that there is a PIN.
  5. Select your Streaming rate.
    Choose QuickTime 384Kb or RealPlayer 384Kb. Make sure your software is up to date. You can view the software requirements below.

  6. Click Advanced Streaming Options to modify conference settings.
    • To view the Video only, un-check the View Content Channel.
    • To view the Video and the Content, make sure both are checked.
    • To change the size of the Content or Video window, select the appropriate size from the drop down menu.
    • To view the Content only, un-check Play Main Audio and Video.
  7. Click Stream this Conference.

The conference will begin streaming in a few seconds. You should hear and view the conference video and presentation.

Interacting with the Live Stream

While viewing the videoconference stream users can use the built-in Web chat located under the content window. The chat is only functional with other users who are viewing the live stream. 

If permitted by the conference coordinator, you can also use a telephone and dial into the videoconference to communicate with each participating site. In order to connect with a telephone, you should dial 1-847-467-0001 (7-0001 if on campus).  When prompted, enter the ConferenceID provided by the conference coordinator, followed by the # sign (e.g. 50012345#).
