Installing RealPlayer for Macintosh

NUIT recommends using the most recent version of RealPlayer to view University webcasts. Make sure you have uninstalled previous versions of RealPlayer before installing the application.

Some installation steps may vary based on your personal preferences for multimedia software. Please follow each step carefully.

1. Download the RealPlayer installer software to your computer. This link will open in a new window.
2. The RealPlayer installer will decompress automatically and appear in your Finder as a disk image. A window similar to the following will appear:

3. Drag the RealPlayer into your Applications folder.
4. Navigate to your Applications folder and double-click the RealPlayer application. A window similar to the following will appear:

5. Click Continue. A window similar to the following will appear:

6. Read the release notes if you wish. Then click Continue. A window similar to the following will appear:

7. Review the terms of the RealPlayer End User License Agreement and click Accept. A window similar to the following will appear:

8. This window presents options for which types of streaming media RealPlayer will be the default player. For most users, the configuration indicated is appropriate. Users who wish to use RealPlayer for Real-Time Streaming Protocol may do so by checking that option.
9. Click Done. A window similar to the following will appear:

10. Click Configure. This will close your web browser window. A window similar to the following will appear:

11. You may test RealPlayer to see if installation was successful. If you can view this video clip, your software is configured properly to view Northwestern Webcasts.
