IT Services & Support

IT Services and Support is a customer-focused organization that works across the University to support students, faculty, and staff in their use of technology. The following teams work closely with technology leaders in the colleges and schools, as well as colleagues in the University Libraries and Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching, to deliver a portfolio of integrated services.

IT Communications

Inform the University community of new and changing technology and raise awareness of Northwestern IT services and resources that support the academic, business, and research activities of the University.

Develop and execute Northwestern IT communication strategy; consult with internal partners and other University business and administrative units to support communications initiatives. Provide guidance for internal and external use of the Northwestern IT brand.

Manage Northwestern IT website content, architecture, and design; administer site contributor access and training.

Media and Technology Innovation

Ken Panko



Deliver learning space design and consultation services to support University schools and departments in making informed decisions regarding audio-visual technologies, digital signage, room-based videoconferencing solutions, and special event support.
Services encompass support for a broad range of academic and research initiatives; design and development of cloud based software applications, mobile apps, and websites; media production for promotional and instructional videos, MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses), animations and visualizations.

Research Computing Services

Deliver high performance computing resources for conducting in-depth computational analysis. Services include research data storage, access to specialized software, and individual consultations regarding data visualizations, grant writing, data workflow, bioinformatics, and the use of national computing facilities.

Teaching and Learning Technologies

Foster innovative learning experiences through the exploration of effective teaching techniques and technologies. Services include Canvas, the primary platform used to facilitate teaching, learning, and collaboration; individual consultations and workshops; instructional design for blended, fully online, and massive open online courses; and the development of innovative infrastructure and tools.

Technology Support Services

Technology Support Services (TSS) provides end-user support to create outstanding customer experiences and enable business outcomes. We educate and inform the University community about new and changing technology at Northwestern, and provide support services to schools, departments, and individual users. We work in partnership with technology leaders from schools and departments to coordinate service delivery and adopt continuous service-improvement practices.  

TSS consists of three primary support units:

  1. Service Desk – Single point of contact on campus for providing first-level technology support to the Northwestern community 
  2. Endpoint Device Management – Desktop support services and system management
  3. IT Service Management – Improves organizational capabilities for effective and efficient service delivery
