IT Project: WebSSO Upgrade

Project Status

July 2020 – Migrations to the latest version of WebSSO have been successfully implemented across the university in a phased approach. The final migrations are scheduled to be completed by July 17. Decommission activities are in progress. The legacy SSO will be permanently retired on July 31, 2020.

The Web Single Sign-On (WebSSO) system at Northwestern is a crucial infrastructure product that supports secure login access to over 600 applications and websites combined. This project will upgrade the current WebSSO system, powered by OpenAM, to the latest vendor version (6.5), in a phased approach, concluding on July 31, 2020.

Goals and Objectives


The project has three primary phases:

To ensure continuity of IT services, the current WebSSO system will run in parallel with the new version until all applications and websites are upgraded.

A Project Steering Committee has been created and meets monthly throughout the project.
