Research Computing High School Summer Intern 2022 

Deadline:  May 23rd, 2022, 5PM.

Eligibility: Applicants must be current high school students.

Location: Northwestern IT Research Computing Services is looking for high school student interested in technology and data.

This is an 8-week paid internship with Northwestern Universities’ Research Computing Services. During the internship you will get to manage a project, attend coding workshops, and contribute to a project. This introduction to project management and IT will give you a glimpse into the many careers in IT.

Location: This internship is hybrid and will be mostly in-person at the Northwestern Evanston Campus with some remote days

Hours: 8 weeks, 20 hours a week, Monday-Thursday, 9AM-1PM

Salary: $16/hr

Misc: Laptop will be provided.

Genomics Compute Cluster Student Consultant 

Deadline: Priority will be given to applications received by May 2, 2022

Eligibility: Northwestern graduate and PhD students with genomics research experience

Location: The work will be mainly remote through August 2022. We will comply with the Northwestern university and IT guidelines for September 2022 and beyond. 
 
Northwestern IT Research Computing Services is hiring a graduate student consultant to help support our Genomics Compute Cluster (GCC) service. The GCC service provides high-performance computing (HPC) resources, consulting and project support for Northwestern HPC researchers in genomics using a wide range of computational approaches. The GCC service student consultant will gain experience in high-performance computing, professional communications, and learn about programs used in genomics research.  
As a student consultant for the GCC service, you may support researchers by optimizing and troubleshooting specific genomics HPC workflows, preparing workshops, writing documentation, responding to questions over Slack, or contributing to projects to improve the GCC service. 

Skills required: Candidates are expected to have strong written and verbal communication skills, availability to work at least 10 hours per week, and experience with at least one computational genomics workflow such as RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, metagenomics, microbiome genomics, exome or whole human genome analysis, etc. Depending on your skills and interests, the position can also involve one or more of the items listed below:

Research Computing Student Consultant

Deadline: Priority will be given to applications received by May 2, 2022

Eligibility: Northwestern graduate and undergraduate students

Location: The work will be mainly remote through August 2022. We will comply with the Northwestern university and IT guidelines for September 2022 and beyond. 

We are a team of research facilitators with diverse backgrounds and skills in high performance computing and data science. We work together with IT partners to help Northwestern faculty and students perform computational research across a wide breadth of research areas. As a part of our group, students experience a broad range of paradigms in scientific computing and develop new technical, consulting and teaching skills. 
The student consultant responsibilities include but not limited to helping researchers identify appropriate computing/data storage resources, troubleshooting technical issues in computational workflows, collecting and analyzing metrics for our computing cluster and developing reports, preparing training materials and contributing to projects to improve research computing services. 

Skills required: The candidates are expected to have strong written and verbal communication and ability to work at least 10 hours per week. Depending on your interests and knowledge, the position can involve the use of one or more of the skills listed below:
