Software Distribution and License Management
Northwestern IT provides multiple campus-licensed software options for purchase or for download on University machines. Software for use on departmental machines is not intended for personal use or use for non-University business. Licenses for home use on personal machines are available for some software.
If a needed application is not listed, first contact your local IT department to see if they have an active license for it. If an application required for University purposes is not offered at the University, please complete a Software Suggestion Form and Northwestern IT will begin the software evaluation process.
Service Offerings
Available Software
Many software titles are offered for academic and/or personal use to the Northwestern community at no cost.
Discounted Northwestern Software
The Northwestern software download portal helps students, faculty, and staff identify the ways in which they can purchase or download Northwestern-recommended software titles.
Attention Northwestern Students: Effective April 3, 2020, Adobe is offering all students enrolled in Spring Quarter courses limited-time use of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software. Adobe is temporarily offering this capability to provide an alternative to on-campus computer labs. Eligible students will receive an email from Adobe, sent to their Northwestern email address, with instructions to create an AdobeID. Once created, the AdobeID is used to download and log in to Adobe Creative Cloud products for the length of the adobe remote license program.
