Remote Access

Northwestern provides multiple ways to securely connect to Northwestern resources.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Virtual Private Network (VPN) establishes a "secure tunnel" for your computer on the Northwestern network. It provides strong encryption, enables authenticated access to the Northwestern network from external and untrusted environments, and proxies your network traffic so it appears to originate from within the Northwestern network.

SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network)

SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network) is used by System administrators, users of restricted applications with sensitive data, and contractors with a need for either remote or local identity-based access control. IT staff may use the SSLVPN to gain access to administrative IT resources upon request.
