Effective Date: 4 Oct 2018

Northwestern undergraduates of all majors are invited to compete in the Big Ten Student Design Challenge. The competition runs from October 1 through November 27, 2018 and is hosted by the Big Ten Academic Alliance in partnership with the office furniture manufacturing company, Herman Miller.

Winning teams receive a monetary prize of $2,000, have the opportunity to network with industry design professionals, and leave a lasting mark on the University by re-furnishing a collaborative space in the University Library on the Evanston campus.

About the Contest

Northwestern has chosen an informal space to be re-furnished -- Project Room A located in University Library 1 South.

Interested undergraduate students will need to complete a proposal template using the Herman Miller Custom Catalog available on the contest website

Visit the Big Ten Student Design Challenge website for the full contest details and submission form.

The Proposed Space

Project Room A in the University Library 1 South was selected based on the high-profile nature of the location and open access to the community. See the dimensions.image of library room in 1 South

The goal is to provide a student-designed location for informal learning that can be easily accessed and used to inform future space and design integrations broadly in the University's learning community.
