New Release of Symantec AntiVirus 10.0.1 for Windows

Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) is making Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) 10.0.1 for Windows available at no charge to Northwestern faculty, staff, and students.

All Windows users at Northwestern are encouraged to download this free virus-protection upgrade as soon as possible in order to guard valuable information against the harmful effects and expansion of computer viruses and network threats.

Impact on End User

SAV 10.0.1 enhancements include:

  • Real-time protection against spyware, including automatic removal for easy disposal of security risks
  • Repair of side effects such as damage to files and registry entries from hard-to-find spyware infections
  • Enhanced tampering protection to guard against unauthorized access and attacks by viruses that attempt to disable security measures

Important note: Having two different antivirus programs installed on one computer can cause conflicts. If you are using a consumer version of Symantec or another antivirus tool, you must uninstall your current antivirus software before you download SAV 10.0.1. (This is not necessary if you are upgrading from a previous version of SAV provided by NUIT.)
