NUIT Revises Pubweb Retirement Plan

To streamline the process for phasing out the Pubweb server, Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) has established a revised plan that involves retiring Pubweb accounts in a staged process, beginning June 19, 2006 and ending on July 31, 2006.

This approach is being taken because many users have been proactively closing their accounts since NUIT's initial Pubweb retirement announcement last January and there are readily available options for faculty and graduate students who require Web hosting space for approved purposes.

Faculty and staff accounts will be terminated on June 19, 2006. Extension requests for Web sites that either support a University course currently in session or provide administrative information may be submitted to Wendy Woodward, director of Technology Support Services (wwk@northwestern.edu), for review and processing. Please include the URL of the Web site in your extension request. Accounts for which extensions are approved will be terminated on July 31, 2006.

Student Pubweb accounts will be terminated on June 30, 2006. Efforts are under way to develop, per doctoral program, graduate student pages that provide information about all enrolled students, as well as secondary pages for students who are advanced to candidacy to post their CVs and present their research. Graduate students are encouraged to contact their director of graduate study for more information.

Pubweb account holders should transfer their files to an alternative Web hosting service and close their accounts as soon as possible. Account holders will receive regular e-mail reminders until their Pubweb accounts are closed.

Options exist for Web sites that have been designated as "in support of the mission of the University."

Please note:

• While Pubweb services will be supported through the published retirement dates, no new accounts will be created.
• If you are leaving campus for the summer and will not return before the applicable retirement date, you must transfer your Pubweb files and close your account before you leave.
