What's New and Changing

NUBlog Now Available through Course Management System, Blackboard

Posted Date: 11 Jan 2007

Effective Date: 11 Jan 2007

NUBlog, the new blogging service for students and faculty, is now exclusively available through Northwestern's Course Management System, Blackboard. The academic service was designed specifically to offer faculty and students a more convenient way to share their reflections within a class environment.

This new service is not viewable on the open Internet; it is only accessible through Blackboard and only for academically related subjects.

NUBlog currently offers customary features common to many public blogs, such as a calendar display, commenting, trackbacks, and RSS notifications. Users are also able to attach key words to blog entries and allow display of entries based on a key word or phrase, creating more ease of view and search.

Accounts for every student in a class are enabled when an instructor requests that a NUBlog link be created in their course site. Not every class will choose to participate.

Impact on End User

The first academically-focused, Northwestern sponsored NUBlog offers students a real-time, convenient way to collaborate, brainstorm, and reflect in and out of the classroom. Students and faculty can now share their thoughts with each other through the interactive blog.

Faculty interested in using this service should sign up through Academic Technologies. Once NUBlog is activated for specific classes, accounts will be enabled through the course management system for every student enrolled. Students will be notified from their instructor of the course management addition, and it will automatically be visible within the course site.
