Emergency Data Center Shutdown Sunday, November 18th

Posted Date: 16 Nov 2007

Effective Date: 18 Nov 2007

Northwestern's Evanston data center requires emergency electrical repairs and will be offline this Sunday, November 18th. NUIT will begin shutting systems down at 6:00 am and hopes to begin powering systems back on at 2:00 pm. If the repairs go well, all systems should be available and back online before 4:00 pm.

Impact on End User

This outage impacts any servers housed in the Evanston data center, as well as any services outside the data center that relay on Single Sign On (SSO/Northwestern Passport) for authentication. Some of the major systems impacted by this outage include:

  • University hosted e-mail (casbah, merle, hecky, lulu) and Web mail
  • Meeting Maker
  • Blackboard
  • Depot
  • CAESAR
  • HRIS
  • ETES
  • CUFS
  • NUINFO (University web pages)
  • NetID authentication
  • NU Portal
  • Single Sign-On (Northwestern Passport)
  • Active Directory services

The @u.northwestsern.edu student collaboration service, hosted by Google, will continue to function but University authentication will not be available.

Please contact the NUIT Support Center at 847-491-HELP between 12:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Sunday for status information concerning the repairs and availability of systems. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
