Northwestern University Launches YouTube Institutional Channel

Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) Academic Technologies and University Relations have partnered to create a new institutional channel on YouTube, the leading online video community. Northwestern YouTube which launched February 18, presents the University's academic offerings, fine arts programs, news, and events in video format to a worldwide audience. Currently, Northwestern is among a handful of universities to have partnered with YouTube on their educational platform. “Over the past two years, NUIT Academic Technologies has seen a tremendous growth of confidence in the use of video as an educational medium, among University educators, students and researchers, alike,” said Bob Taylor, Director of NUIT Academic Technologies. “Our expertise in video production and streaming media made the collaboration with University Relations on this project seem like a natural progression.” Many of the videos currently presented on Northwestern YouTube have been produced by NUIT's Northwestern University Advanced Media Production Services ( NUAMPS). Visitors to the site will be able to view videos with cultural substance reflecting the rich academic excellence represented at Northwestern University.
Members of the Northwestern community and general public are able to view University-produced videos in one central location.
Northwestern YouTube features five posting areas: Academics, Research, Arts, News, and Events. Users will be able to view videos of professors and visiting dignitaries lecturing on a variety of topics, listen to fine arts performances, and watch University news and events.
Representatives of NUIT Academic Technologies and University Relations will present information and guidelines on how to contribute videos to the playlist on the Northwestern University YouTube in two upcoming workshops:
- Chicago Campus, Wieboldt Hall - 421: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Noon
- Evanston Campus, University Library - 2nd Floor Reference Classroom, East Tower: Friday, March 14, 2008 at Noon
