iTunes U - Take Northwestern To Go
Posted Date: 17 Feb 2009
Effective Date: 17 Feb 2009
Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT), in partnership with University Relations, today launched Northwestern on iTunes U, an educational album within Apple's iTunes store.
Members of the University community and the general public can now sync, download, and play University-produced podcasts featuring Northwestern sporting events, campus news, fine arts presentations and faculty lectures - all through the use of Internet based digital devices, such as iPods, iPhones, and other MP3 players.
"The use of mobile devices continues to make a great impact in how we access and use information as a society," said Robert Taylor, director of NUIT Academic Research & Technologies. "Offering a repository of Northwestern academic and campus culture through this venue is a natural transition."
While the current site is accessible to the general public, an additional site is being developed for course-based materials accessible to users with a valid NetID. Instructors will soon be able to provide course lectures for their students to upload and access from their mobile device anytime and anywhere.
Impact on End User
Northwestern on iTunes U is a free service that allows anyone on iTunes to view University-produced podcasts on a variety of mobile devices.
University schools and departments wishing to contribute a University-related podcast can send an e-mail to Faculty Support Services. Supported files include most common forms of audio & video formats, enhanced podcasts, common image formats, text, and PDFs.
NUIT Academic & Research Technologies will present information sessions about Northwestern on iTunes U in two upcoming information sessions.
