Posted Date: 13 May 2017

Effective Date: 13 May 2017

Northwestern University Information Technology has been actively monitoring and responding to reports of a global cyber event, since May 12, 2017.

An early assessment of our managed environments, including networks, data centers, and connected devices indicates a favorable position with regard to Northwestern's risk of exposure to these attacks.

“We continue to see an increasing level and sophistication of approaches used by cyber criminals to target institutional IT devices and Northwestern is no exception,” said Thomas P. Murphy, Chief Information Security Officer, Northwestern Information Technology. “This most recent exploit serves as a reminder to all of us to exercise the utmost care with all online activity.”

The Northwestern IT community is continuing to assess and remediate any related points of exposure.
