NUIT Meeting Maker Restoration Policy

Audience:

Northwestern University departments, faculty, and staff for the purpose of University related business or research.

Definition:

The central MeetingMaker server provides service for approximately 2,000 account holders. MeetingMaker data is stored on a central server and is archived nightly. This data can be corrupted or deleted due to account holder error. Account holders should use MeetingMaker at their own risk.

Policy Statement:

MeetingMaker data is stored on a central server and is transferred nightly to a backup server. Because this occurs each night, only the previous day's data is available on the backup server and is only available for approximately 24 hours. After this time, this data is archived. Archived MeetingMaker data can be restored from backup storage for a period of 28 days. A fee of $200 will be charged for restoring archived MeetingMaker data. The archived data will be restored within 48 hours.

MeetingMaker account holders can request a restoration via the NUIT Support Center at 847-491-HELP (4357). It is important to contact the Support Center as soon as a problem such as deleted or corrupted data is detected.

Glossary of Terms

  • Archiving MeetingMaker data: The removal of MeetingMaker data from a backup server and transfer to backup storage.
  • Restoring MeetingMaker data: Copying archived MeetingMaker data from backup storage to a backup server to make the data available for retrieval.

Background Issues:

Although the need for Meeting Maker restoration is rare, it is important to have a procedure in place should the need arise. By announcing a formal policy, NUIT will create a more predicable service environment for Meeting Maker account holders.
