Rooftop Lease Policy

Audience:

All members of the Northwestern Community and users of the University network.

Policy Statement:

Northwestern University Information Technology is responsible for the administrative, financial, and technical management of all airwave services and facilities on University rooftop spaces. Information Technology is also responsible for collecting and applying negotiated rental fees, if any, to the Information Technology budget.

Background Issues:

Management of all types of wireless / airwave services (such as fixed and mobile wireless, satellite dishes, etc.) and vendors are included in this responsibility. All requests for rooftop space to support these services, including NU internal uses, external vendor and service provider site requests, and proposed contracts must also be reviewed by an internal University committee. This Committee, in conjunction with Information Technology, has established a protocol for the design, installation and maintenance of all approved proposals. The Committee review process includes the maintenance of roof integrity, building structural issues, esthetics review and other factors. All internal and vendor requests for rooftop space for these types of services should be directed to NUIT Telecommunications & Network Services.
