Brian provides data management support for Northwestern researchers looking to leverage on-premises data storage solutions, such as the Research Data Storage Service (RDSS), as well as public cloud computing and storage options. Brian collaborates with Northwestern University Libraries and Galter Health Sciences Library to support researchers in developing, budgeting for, and implementing data management and sharing plans that meet the requirements of funding institutions such as NIH and NSF, as well as increase the efficiency of research workflows and the visibility of research data outputs.
He supports researchers in sharing data with collaborators via Globus and other open-source tools and protocols through individual consultations and workshops. Brian is involved in the ongoing expansion of Globus as a service for managing data across Northwestern’s storage platforms. Brian also provides guidance to researchers on optimizing research data workflows while adhering to institutional, federal, and contractually obligated data security policies and best practices. He is a 2022 Trusted CI Fellow, with training in cybersecurity issues that researchers encounter.
Prior to joining Northwestern University, Brian began his career supporting research data management at the University of Illinois before moving to the Center for Health Statistics at the University of Chicago. He has also provided consulting services on data management and report generation leveraging APIs and the AWS Lambda serverless architecture. Brian has a BA in Computer Science and an MBA from DePaul University.
