Remove Old Zoom Meetings from Imported Course Content

Categories: time-saving-tips

When importing Canvas course content from an old course site to a new one, you may have noticed that old Zoom meetings are also being added to the new course. Obviously, having those around can be confusing! There are two options to avoid this scenario, one that can be done during the import process and one that can be done after content has already been imported.

I’ve imported content into a new course site. How do I get rid of old Zoom meetings?

Old Zoom meetings will appear in two places — the Canvas calendar and the syllabus for the course. In both cases, they will appear as undated. From the syllabus page in your Canvas course, scroll to the bottom of the list where undated items appear, and click on one of the listings:

The link will take you to the Canvas Calendar. From there, find the “UNDATED” menu on the far right side of the page under the available calendar listings.

Undated Calendar Items

Click on a listing to reveal a pop-up window with the event details, and then click the Delete button in that window. Once you have deleted the old Zoom meetings, they will be removed from both the calendar and the syllabus (refresh the page to confirm).

How do I avoid importing old Zoom meetings into a new course?

Please refer to this Canvas Guide on importing course content. For the step “Select Migration Content,” be sure to choose the second option to “Select specific content.”

When the pop-up appears, click all of the checkboxes to select course content except for “Calendar Events,” and then proceed with the import.

Selecting content to import

This will prevent old Zoom meetings from carrying over into the new site. Please refer to this Canvas Guide for migrating only selected content.
