put your personal or Northwestern-sensitive information at risk—this is the theme for the 2018-19 Northwestern Cyber Security Awareness campaign beginning, October 1.

This is the logo for the Secure Northwestern Cyber Security campaign Northwestern Information Technology officially kicks off the campaign to coincide with National Cyber Security Awareness month and the beginning of the academic year.

“Building upon the success of last year’s campaign, our goal is to promote the use of best practices for keeping personal and institutional information secure,” said Thomas Murphy, senior director and chief information security officer, Northwestern IT. “Simply pausing to assess the validity of an email before clicking on a link can go a long way to preventing the misuse of your NetID password, bank account access, and other sensitive information.”

The goal of the campaign is to provide members of the Northwestern community with information and guidance for using technology in a secure manner. Each month will feature a new topic, beginning with security tips to consider before you upload information to the Cloud. This is the poster that provides tips for uploading information to the Clouc

In partnership with University schools and departments, each month Northwestern IT will distribute security awareness messages on digital displays located in key locations across the Evanston and Chicago campuses as well as the intercampus shuttle.

Secure Northwestern campaign security flyers are now available to download and post in lounges, break rooms, computer labs, or other common gathering areas.
