Posted Date: 18 Nov 2020

Effective Date: 14 Dec 2020

Northwestern IT Research Computing Services is scheduled to perform maintenance to Quest, the University’s high-performance computing cluster, beginning Monday, December 14, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. and continuing through Sunday, December 20, 2020. Quest, including Quest Analytics and the Kellogg Linux Cluster (KLC), will be unavailable during the maintenance window.

During this downtime, the following maintenance will be performed:

Impact on the Quest User Community

November 15-December 14: Quest users should refrain from making significant data changes such as moving, renaming, or deleting large data/directories. If it is necessary to make changes to large file sets during this time, please contact quest-help@northwestern.edu for assistance.

December 14-20: Users of Quest may not submit new jobs, run jobs, access files stored on Quest, or use Quest Analytics during the maintenance window. Additionally, jobs with a wall time that extend beyond the start of the downtime should remain pending. Pending jobs will be re-scheduled to run after the downtime.

About OpenMPI

After the maintenance period, OpenMPI 1.x.x and 2.x.x will no longer be supported. Users are encouraged to migrate to the OpenMPI 3.x.x. currently available on Quest or use the upgraded version 4.0.5 after the upgrade.

Support

Members of the Quest community needing help to prepare for the maintenance outage period or support should contact Research Computing Services at quest-help@northwestern.edu.
