Message from the VP/CIO: The Work Behind a Strong Start
Dear Northwestern IT Staff,
As we begin a new academic year, I want to thank each of you for the dedication, expertise, and care you bring to your work every day. The start of fall quarter is one of the most visible reminders of the impact Northwestern IT has on the University. Because of your efforts, students arrive ready to learn, faculty are equipped to teach and conduct ground-breaking research, staff can support critical operations, and our community can connect, collaborate, and succeed.
That smooth start does not happen by chance. It reflects months of preparation and collaboration across our teams—work that often happens behind the scenes but is felt across classrooms, labs, offices, and online spaces. Whether you helped prepare systems, support faculty and researchers, answer questions, resolve issues, strengthen infrastructure, or keep essential services running, your work helped Northwestern kick off the year with confidence.
The same preparation and collaboration that made a strong start possible will be essential as we navigate the opportunities ahead. AI presents both challenges and possibilities as it reshapes teaching, learning, research, and University operations. We must continue to provide the flexible, secure infrastructure and services our community needs to use these tools responsibly and effectively. We must also model thoughtful AI adoption in our own work, exploring where it can improve how we serve the University.
The impact of Northwestern IT is measured not only in the systems we maintain or the services we provide, but in the people we empower and the possibilities we help create. Thank you for everything you do to support our community and one another. I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the months ahead.
