Email: haley.carter@northwestern.edu
Haley supports the computational needs of Northwestern researchers across the university, but especially those working with genomics and other 'omics' related data. Her research experience includes genome assembly and annotation, genome-wide association studies, and comparative genomic and metabolomic analyses. As a Senior Computational Specialist, she leverages this experience to help Northwestern researchers design workflows, install necessary software, and allocate appropriate computational resources to meet their research goals.
Haley provides training for the Northwestern research community through regularly offered workshop series. She has developed and taught over a dozen workshops on bioinformatic and high-performance computing topics. Her passion for teaching computational biology started during her graduate studies when she also worked part-time as a data science consultant for Research Computing and Data Services and as a teaching assistant for quantitative courses in the Plant Biology and Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences departments. She has also organized and taught workshops at national and international conferences.
Haley holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern in Plant Biology, and a B.Sc. in Biology from Brown University. Her non-academic passions include sailing and gardening.
