Julia uses her previous research experience in theoretical soft condensed matter physics to support Northwestern’s researchers in utilizing computing resources. She works with students, faculty, and staff to enhance their understanding of computational tools, develop workflows, and reach their research goals.

Prior to joining Northwestern, Julia earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Physics from Gettysburg College and a PhD in Physics from Syracuse University. At Syracuse, her research sought to understand and predict the unique yielding behaviors of active and passive structural glasses with the goal of inspiring novel material design. Julia’s thesis research required developing code bases to simulate and analyze the dynamics of disordered materials under a variety of loading conditions and utilizing high-throughput computing (HTC) resources to generate and manage large datasets.

During her previous education and research, Julia gained several years of experience as a teaching assistant, peer-mentor, and science communicator. She values making technical content accessible to a wide variety of students and researchers. Outside of work, Julia enjoys rock climbing, traveling, hiking, cooking, and music.
