Computational Resources and Support

Quest Computing Cluster

Powerful and Scalable

Quest offers a secure, reliable, and stable environment designed to meet the compute and high-speed storage needs of Northwestern researchers.

Housed at the University's Data Center, Quest's powerful infrastructure consists of over 1,000 dedicated compute nodes and 8PB of storage and is ideal for running compute-intensive and data-intensive applications.

Genomics Compute Cluster

Northwestern provides the Genomics Compute Cluster (GCC), an 8,272-core allocation on Quest, which can be used to align sequencing data, run RNA-Seq, ChIP-seq, single-cell analysis, whole genome analysis, custom code, utilize GPUs for machine learning and model training, and more.

The GCC is available for all computational genomics researchers at Northwestern and is funded by the Feinberg School of Medicine and the Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences to foster and empower computational genomics research at Northwestern.

Kellogg Linux Cluster

The Kellogg Linux Cluster (KLC) comprises ten high-memory Linux servers connected to Quest.  Networked storage is shared among all the KLC servers. This includes a private 80 GB home directory for each user and 600 TB of network storage available for project directories, where files can be shared.

KLC files are also available on Quest, and this connectivity allows users to easily scale their computation up to thousands of cores on Quest, if necessary.
