Dataquest Online Courses
Dataquest is an online platform with self-paced, interactive courses on R, Python, SQL, and more.
Dataquest subscriptions for researchers are funded by Research Computing and Data Services, the Department of Political Science, Galter Health Sciences Library and Learning Center, and Kellogg School of Management.
Access for Researchers
PhD students, faculty, and postdocs interested in learning or improving their data analysis skills in support of their research are eligible for access. Undergraduates, master's degree students, and staff may request access if engaged in a relevant research project with a faculty sponsor or supervisor, or via special arrangement.
Space is limited. Access is provisioned on a quarterly basis. Priority is given to those who have not previously had access to an online learning platform through this program when demand exceeds the number of spots available.
The available spots usually fill up. To be considered for the upcoming quarter, submit your request by the deadlines below.
- Winter Quarter (access early January through March): December 31st
- Spring Quarter (access early April through June): March 31st
- Summer Quarter (access early July through September): June 30th
- Fall Quarter (access early September through December): September 30th
You will be contacted via email early in the quarter as to whether a spot is available. To use the platform, you will need to make an account on Dataquest with your Northwestern email.
Access for Coursework
Dataquest can be used for free as part of a university course. Instructors can request access for their students directly from Dataquest. See https://www.dataquest.io/for-institutions/ for details.
